- Butter, for greasing baking dish
- 1lb. bulk sweet Italian sausage
- 2 tbsp. olive oil
- 1 large clove of garlic, minced,
- Kosher salt as per taste
- 1 bunch broccoli rabe, tough stems trimmed
- 1.5 cup Cheese, grated
- 12 eggs
- 1 ¼ c. basil leaves, finely sliced
- 1 ½ c. heavy cream or ½
- ¼ tsp. freshly ground black pepper
- 1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
- Adjust the oven rack to the middle position. Preheat the oven to 3500 and grease a 9” x13” baking dish with butter.
- In a saucepan heat oil over medium heat. Cook sausage, breaking it up with a spoon, until golden and cooked through about 8 minutes. Move into a large bowl, and mix with garlic.
- Meanwhile, bring a medium pot of water to a boil, and season the water with 2 tbsp salt. Blanch the broccoli rabe until tender. About 4 minutes. Then drain and let it cool. Using a kitchen towel, squeeze broccoli rabe to remove excess water. Then chop into ½ pieces. Add broccoli rabe to the bowl, and mix until combined.
- Transfer the mixture to the baking dish. Sprinkle the cheese on it.
- In a bowl add eggs, 1 ½ tsp salt, and whisk heavy cream, basil, pepper, and nutmeg. And then pour the egg mixture into the baking dish.
- Bake until just set in the center, 40-55 min. let’s cool for 15 min before cutting and voila it’s ready to eat.
